Necessary Components of a Sales Resume
All contact information must be accurate and quickly accessible by you. Use a professional-looking email address.
Present a snapshot of your background in a few sentences. If you were in the same room with a hiring manager and you had 30 seconds to sell yourself, what would you say?
List your most significant skills and prioritize them by using the job description of your target position. What skills do they mention first? Match your skills and present them.
The structure of presenting work experience is largely the same on most resumes. Provide company, location, job title, dates worked, general duties, and measurable achievements. Our sales resume examples demonstrate strategies to present this information.
Highlight all post-secondary education. It is also recommended to include industry certifications, licenses, and other formal training.
4 Resume Don’ts
• Don’t get too worried about trimming your resume to one page. If you have important accomplishments and experience that overflows onto a second page, just make sure it supports the requirements of the target position.
• Don’t take too much time to emphasize job experience older than 15 years. Save that room for more current experience since that is what hiring managers will be keying on.
• Don’t include your high school diploma in the Education section. High school graduation is required for just about all positions and it is assumed that you already have a diploma.
• Don’t mention personal information that is not related to the job you are seeking. Your physical description, health history, social security number, etc. are things you should leave off your resume.
